"The referendum as the key element of Slovenia's independence and as the founding of the Slovene State is a milestone in Slovene history, but also part of European and world history," Prime Minister Janez Drnovsek, the keynote speaker at the central ceremony marking the Independence Day, said in his address to top officials and figures from other walks of life in Cankarjev dom on Thursday evening.
