The fate of the Chechen fighters for independence was largely created already in Kosovo. The Western military intervention in Yugoslavia, which was opposed by Russia, resulted in complete absence of currently urgent need for stronger Western protest against Russia's slaughter in Chechnya. Perhaps it is also because of West's strategic decisions that the breakaway republic became a victim, the Slovene evening paper Vecer writes on Thursday.
