Slovene President: New Year Holds Out New Hope
Ljubljana, 31 December - NEW/YEAR/MESSAGE/KUCAN
"We have set up and protected our own place of freedom. An increasing number among us believe a time has come to take leave of old grudges, hatred and quarrels so as not to carry this unfortunate legacy along into the future," Slovene President Milan Kucan said in his New Year's message. The Slovenes are in Kucan's opinion ready for the new millennium, which brings new hopes and challenges. The decisions awaiting the nation in the new year will determine its future life and the life of future generations of Slovenes as well as makind.
