Review of Events Involving Slovenia from 25 through 31 December

Ljubljana, 1 January - In the last few days of the year 1999 Slovenia has been taken over by the festive holiday mood. The most important events involving Slovenia included the handing over of the last position papers in Brussels, in what is regarded to be the most challenging field, agriculture. Critics of the Slovene-Croatian agreement on co-operation in border regions began to raise their voice; that agreement is still awaiting ratification from parliament. The ambassadors of neigbouring countries expressed their expectations that co-operation will remain strong between Slovenia and their countries. Also in the spotlight was the recently passed declaration in foreign politics, which deals with Slovene minorities in Italy.
