General Shelton Offers U.S. Assistance to Slovene Armed Forces

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, U.S. General Henry H. Shelton, on Wednesday arrived in Slovenia for a two-day official visit at the invitation of the Slovene Chief of Staff Gen. Iztok Podbregar. Gen. Shelton met with Slovene President Milan Kucan and Defence Minister Franci Demsar, as well as examined the 15 brigade of the Slovene air force at the Brnik airport and the ASOC centre. Gen. Shelton stressed that in joining NATO, Slovenia should make efforts to achieve interoperatibility of the Slovene armed forces with forces of other NATO members. He also offered U.S. support for programmes of training Slovene soldiers.
