Pickering Attends a Meeting on Slovenia's Role in SE Europe

U.S. Under Secretary for Political Affairs, Thomas R. Pickering, participated in Tuesday's round-table discussion in Ljubljana which focused on Slovenia's role as a model country for South Eastern Europe. The United States sees Slovenia as a bridge towards crisis-ridden SE Europe on account of its historical and cultural roots as well as its geographical position, Pickering said. Other participants in the discussion established that one of the major problems of the region was enforcing the rule of law, whereby they stressed the role of NGOs in solving problems.
