Duty Free Shop Owners Against Their Transformation into Ordinary Shops

The transformation of duty free shops on the road border-crossings with Italy, Austria, and Hungary into shops with ordinary tax obligation by 1 January 2001 practically means they will have to be closed down, say the owners of these shops. While commenting on the recent decision by the government to transform duty free shops, the owners stressed it would be impossible to do business under new conditions. The eleven duty free shops on the road boarder-crossings with Croatia, however, will retain a special tax and duty status until Slovenia joins the EU.
