Vecer Criticises the Closure of Duty-Free Shops
Maribor, 4 February - PRESS/EU/DUTY-FREE
Due to special supervisory measures at road border crossings, due to the disrespect of the travellers habits who are returning from business or personal trips and wish to empty their pockets at duty-free shops, and due to fatal government decisions that are not based on realistic and thought out presumptions, there will be no more duty-free shops in Slovenia. Maybe one or two will vegetate for a couple of more years before their last tolar runs out and fills the national budget. If the government listened to owners and other independent experts they could have found out that the majority of these shops will be closed and that those which will be transformed will never have the same offerings as the current duty-free's. If they listened they would have found out that there wont be any buyers in these shops because they will be buying with ease just across the border, especially if they forget their receit, namely the fine they will have to pay there for this offence is 6 to 90 times less than the fine in border shops.
