Interest of Small Countries Should be Secured by the IGC on Institutional Reform

Brussels, 13 February - SLOVENIA/EU/INSTITUTIONS/REFORM
Slovenia believes that each member state of the EU should have one Commissioner, and further supports the extension of the qualified majority voting with unanimity reserved for constitutional issues and other clearly defined exceptions. Also, when re-distributing the votes in the Council, the interest of small countries should be secured. Such is the Slovene position in the wake of the EU Intergovernmental Conference (IGC) on institutional reform, which was expressed in a letter by Slovene Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel to Portuguese Presidency.
