Slovene Human Development Index Increases

Ljubljana, 18 February - HUMAN/RESOURCES/REPORT
The level of poverty in Slovenia, which amounted to 14.1 percent in 1996, increased in 1999, as did the gap between the high income earners and the low income earners. Slovenia places 28th among 174 countries in the Human Development Index (HDI), which along with the gross domestic product (GDP) is one of the most significant indicators of the development of a country.
