Criminal Activities Increase by 13 Percent in 1999

Ljubljana, 28 March - The Slovene Police recorded a 13-percent increase in criminal activity which caused approximately SIT 19.8 billion (98.6 million euros) in damages during the course of 1999. General Director of the Police Andrej Podvrsic, who labelled the work of the police as successful, told Tuesday's press conference that approximately 46 percent of cases were solved in 1999, which is somewhat worse than in 1998. The increased number of criminal offences can also be attributed to a decrease in security.
