New Numbering System for Fixed Telephone Lines

Ljubljana, 30 March - TELECOMMUNICATIONS/NUMBERING
A new numbering system will come in to force as of Thursday for Slovenia's fixed telephone lines, which are operated by the national telecommunications operator Telekom Slovenia. The current system of 12 regional codes will be replaced by six new codes. The subscriber telephone numbers will also be changed and will contain seven digits. Until November the old system will operate in parallel with the new one, however after this date the new system will have to be used for successful dialing. Telekom Slovenia will thus have to change 95 percent of all subscriber numbers. The project for the change of the numbering system will cost SIT 500,000 million (euro 2.5 million) and will be completed by 2001.
