Slovenia Celebrates 10th Anniversary of Democratic Elections

Ljubljana, 7 April - This year marks the tenth anniversary of several key events that led to the independence of Slovenia and were the realisation of increasingly outspoken calls for democratisation, the sovereignty of the Slovene nation and the introduction of political plurality which marked the late 80s. Slovenia is thus celebrating the tenth anniversary of the first multi-party elections, which ran between 8 and 24 April 1990 and were clearly won by the coalition of opposition parties (DEMOS).
