More Than 2.5 Million Mines Estimated across the Balkans
Ig, 13 April - Heads of Demining Centres from Croatia, Bosnia, Kosovo and Albania met at Ig near Ljubljana on Thursday. Sponsored by the Slovenia-led International Trust Fund for Demining and Mine Victims Assistance (ITF), this is the first meeting of experts from the Balkans, which is expected to become a regular form of co-operation considering the interest of the participants and the graveness of the problem of mines in the region. Organisations in charge have estimated that there are over 2.5 million mines in the Balkans.
