"Performance of the applicant countries will be of significant importance to NATO members when they will be considering new membership invitations at the next summit in 2002 ... NATO is not a political award club, but a defence alliance and its efficiency as defence alliance of central value to its members," NATO Secretary General George Robertson said in an interview with STA prior to his first visit to Slovenia scheduled for 10 and 11 May.
