Bruguera Knocked Out in First Round

Tournament attraction Spaniard Sergi Bruguera was knocked out of the Renault Slovenian Open in the first round. In a three set thriller against fellow Spaniard Julian Alonso, Bruguera faltered in the final tie-break and allowed Alonso to clinch the match with 7:5, 1:6 and 6:7 (6:8). With the loss, the two-time French Open winner and former world number three continues a woeful few years which have seen his rankings drop from eight in 1997 to more than 200th.
