Slovenia's UN Ambassador Discusses Reforms on Financing Peace-Keeping Operations

New York, 18 May - UN/BUDGET/PETRIC
Newly-appointed Slovene Ambassador to the UN Ernest Petric said in his speech before the UN budget committee, where the reform on the manner of financing peace-keeping operations was debated, that Slovenia joins in its opinion the speech of the Portuguese Ambassador Antonio Monteiro, who presented the EU's stand on the matter. Petric, who submitted his credentials to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan on Wednesday, pointed to the unsolved issue of the succession of former Yugoslavia in determining the volume of contributions. He also stressed that the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia had not applied for UN membership as yet, and should therefore not be considered in this regard.
