Fate of Planned Changes to Electoral Legislation Remains Uncertain

Ljubljana, 31 May - Although a support of principle has been given for the recent initiative raised by a group of 28 MPs to more clearly define the electoral system in the Constitution, the parliamentary commission in charge of the electoral system and changes to the Constitution on Wednesday closed the debate on the issue until further notice. The commission today discussed a prepared draft of the Constitutional act to ammend the 80th article of the Constitution, but closed the discussion because of conflicting opinions by MPs. The commission called upon deputy groups to draft alternative proposals of electoral acts on the basis of which more suitable contents to form the planned revision of the Constitution could be achieved.
