Minister In Charge of Legislation Says He Understands SDS Leader Jansa

Ljubljana, 1 July - In an interview for Saturday's release of the daily Dnevnik, Minister without portfolio in charge of legislation Tone Jerovsek assessed that it would be necessary to wait until the last possible date before calling elections, as long as a possibility for the implementation or a referendum on a election system remains. In his opinion it would be best if the citizens decided in a referendum between the current proportional representation system and the majority system being proposed by some parties in Slovenia (especially the Social Democrats). In the interview Jerovsek also said that the delay with changing the election system could not result in an extension to the mandate of the parliament and that the eventual illegitimacy of the regime which is elected by the current system would have to be decided upon by the Constitutional Court
