U.S. Will Continue to Offer Support to Stability Pact, Says Washington Official

The U.S. will continue to offer firm support to the Stability Pact for SE Europe and to efforts for the stabilisation of the region, while it calls on the EU to establish better contacts with the countries in the region. "We will do our part, but our European colleagues have to take the lead," said Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of European Affairs during a video conference on the first anniversary of the Sarajevo conference at which the Stability Pact was launched. Hamilton also said that the U.S. will continue to support efforts for these countries to become members of NATO.
