Amnesty International Slovenia Protests against Government Policy on Refugees
Ljubljana, 29 July - The UN and the EU have recommended that refugees should not have the status of a temporary refugee for more than five years. However, refugees accommodated in Slovenia have had it for eight years, during which time they have had no right to work, their health insurance is only vaguely defined and the state does not recognise officially the time they have spent in Slovenia. These are some of the slogans written on the banners by members of Amnesty International Slovenia, an NGO which staged a sit-in in the centre of the Slovene capital on Saturday morning. Some 50 persons sat in.
