Slovene President Sends Letter to Participants of Basovizza Ceremony
Trieste, 10 September - "The Basovizza victims are one of the deeply moving landmarks in a fight for democracy, they are an example and a symbol of the struggle to put those values of European civilisation's tradition into practice which have spurred from and were protected by both the fight and the victory of the WW II allies. They are therefore an integral part of the foundation of a Europe desired for the future," said Slovene President Milan Kucan in a letter sent to participants of the central ceremony marking 70th anniversary of the execution of four Slovene anti-fascists. The ceremony began on Sunday afternoon in the village of Basovizza near the Italian city of Trieste. Kucan regretted that he could not attend the ceremony due to previous engagements.
