Catastrophic Qualifications for Gymnast Petkovsek

Sydney, 16 September - Mitja Petkovsek, the Slovene gymnast competing on the parallel bars, delivered a disappointing performance at the Sydney Olympics. He made a big mistake during his exercise, stepped on the floor and then continued the excercise, but received a mere 8.687 for his performance. Petkovsek, the current European champion on parallel bars, was one of the favourites in the competition. The U.S. monthly Sports Illustrated even forecast that Petkovsek would win a gold medal on the parallel bars.
