Mankoc Sets New National Record, Finishes 21st

Sydney, 19 September - Slovene swimmer Peter Mankoc set a new national record in 100 metres freestyle during a heat at the Olympic Aquatic Centre in Sydney. His time of 50.28 seconds was good enough to ensure him 21st place in the discipline, but not enough to allow him to advance to the semi-finals. The fastest qualifier for the semi-finals was Dutchman Pieter van den Hoogenband with a time of 48.64 seconds.
