Delo: Excise Duty Soap Opera
Ljubljana, 22 September - The Andrej Bajuk-led Government was not the first government to give in to the pressures from a stronger or weaker, politically driven or not, interest group. Previous governments were also consistent in their unprincipled attitude. What is important for the government parties is that there are no public rows, such as that farmers don't demand help in easing consequences of some natural disasters and that all students and researchers are connected to the Internet for such a cheap price that nobody knows who will pay for the million tolar bills. From the government parties' short-term point of view it is understandable, while from the point of view of public finances it is unreasonable. Their voters are happy, while the taxpayers are horrified, the Ljubljana-based daily Delo writes in its Topic of the Day on Friday.
