Weekly Review of Events Involving Slovenia from 23 to 29 September
Ljubljana, 30 September - Despite there being only two weeks left before the general elections, the political activities in Slovenia were not exclusively aimed at the elections. The last week was marked by two Slovene visits abroad, namely Defence Minister Janez Jansa's visit to North America and Foreign Minister Lojze Peterle's visit to Sarajevo. On the other hand doctors and dentists announced strike action because their demands for harmonisation of doctors' wages with that of judges as of the beginning of 1998 were not met. The Foreign Ministry also released its first response to the elections in Yugoslavia during the week, expressing expectations that democratic change in Serbia and Yugoslavia will lead to a new path for normalisation of ties and will establish new foundations for good co-operation between the nations.
