Slovene EU Negotiator: Sweden Wants a Political Breakthrough in Enlargement
Stockholm, 11 October - Sweden would like to make a "political breakthrough" in enlargement while presiding over the European Union in the second half of next year, Slovenia's chief negotiator with the EU Janez Potocnik told the STA on Wednesday upon the conclusion of his two-day visit to Sweden. By "breakthrough" Sweden means a clear decision of the 15-nation bloc in favour of speedy enlargement with best-qualified candidates and a progress in the negotiations that would only leave the last package of issues for Belgium's presidency in the second half of 2001. Such plans are good for Slovenia, Potocnik emphasised.
