Weekly Review of Events Involving Slovenia from 14 to 20 October

Ljubljana, 21 October - The story of the week in Slovenia were Sunday's general elections at which the Liberal Democracy (LDS) came out with the greatest reason to smile. The LDS is standing to receive 34 parliamentary seats in the 90 seat parliament when the official results are released this upcoming Tuesday. The Social Democrats (SDS) are standing to receive 14 seats, while the United List (ZLSD) also improved immensely from the previous elections and are to receive 11 seats. Among the greatest losers of the elections were the merged SLS+SKD Slovene People's Party which is in for a total of 9 seats, 20 less than it held in the previous parliament. Negotiations to form a government coalition are now in full swing.
