Review of Slovenia's Economy in the Week between 14 and 20 October
Ljubljana, 22 October - In one of its last weekly sessions, the outgoing government on Thursday appointed acting director of Slovenia's electricity supplier (ELES) Vitoslav Tuerk director of the company for the period of four years. It raised the retail prices of liquefied oil gas and natural gas from distribution network by 5.42 percent and nine percent, respectively. The government in addition passed a model for fixing prices of natural gas.
The dispute over the dismissal of the head of the National Tax Administration (DURS) continued into the week after the parliamentary elections. Prime Minister Andrej Bajuk addressed a letter with a "binding instruction" to Finance Minister Zvonko Ivanusic on Thursday, instructing the minister to appoint Finance Ministry State Secretary Romana Logar the acting Director of DURS within 24 hours. Minister Ivanusic said that Bajuk's proposal exceeded the level of "binding instruction" as defined in Government Act, and announced that he would reply Bajuk on 23 October after thoroughly examining legal and other consequences of the demand.
