Border between Slovenia and Croatia to Become External Border of EU
Ljubljana, 27 October - Intensive preparations for the establishment of the future external border of the European Union began in Slovenia last summer. After Slovenia joins the EU, its border with Croatia will become an external border of the EU on which the Schengen acquis will have to be implemented. In addition Slovenia will have to carry out veterinary, phytologic and customs inspection in accordance with the EU standards. Slovenia's target date to accomplish the task is 1 January 2003.
