Slovenia's Succession Negotiator Highlights Situation after FRY's Entry into the UN
Ljubljana, 3 November - The decision of the new Yugoslav leadership to apply for membership in the United Nations as all other countries successors to the former Yugoslav federation is very important as it removes the main obstacle in the efforts to work out an agreement on succession to former Yugoslavia. As a new country, the FRY is now in a position equal to that of the other four successor states. Now is the time for negotiations and Slovenia will start them where it should have started ten years ago, said Miran Mejak, who used to head Slovenia's team for succession negotiations.
