Weekly Review of Events Involving Slovenia from 4 to 10 November
Ljubljana, 11 November - The political scene in Slovenia was dominated last week by a generally positive report on Slovenia's progress towards EU membership which was released by the European Commission on Wednesday, and by the election of a new top officials of the National Assembly on Friday. Borut Pahor, ZLSD leader and a 37-year old political scientist, became its Speaker. After coming to a standstill at the beginning of the week, informal coalition talks resumed and resulted in the ZLSD and the DeSUS leadership's taking a decision to join a coalition with the LDS, while the SLS+SKD has not yet said its final word. A special agreement on co-operation between the LDS and the SMS was signed facilitating co-operation on special projects in the next four-year government term in office. A similar agreement, but on even closer co-operation was signed with the DuSUS.
