Government Passes a Series of Measures in Regard to BSE
Ljubljana, 29 November - The agriculture minister on Wednesday briefed the government on the situation and measures taken to eradicate the mad cow disease, known as BSE and on the current situation in cattle breeding. In a bid to protect the health of the people and to return the confidence of consumers in the food of animal origin, the government introduced several measures. Thus, the central nervous system and lymphatic tissue of mammals were eliminated from people's diet, and a ban was introduced on the use of bone meal in fodder. The government also ordered an assessment of costs the ban will cause. In addition to that, quick diagnostics of BSE is to be introduced by 1 January 2001.
