Ljubljana, 3 December - Only a day after being elected, the new Slovene government tackled the rising budget deficit, deciding to limit the this year's budgetary expenses. The government will also begin to draft next year's budget as early as next Saturday and should have it prepared by the end of January 2001. During the week the Ministry of Agriculture responded to the mounting mad cow disease scare and ensured the Slovene public that there is no reason for concern. Despite this the former government led by Andrej Bajuk passed a number of preventative measures on Wednesday.
