Maier Of Austria Wins In Maribor, Pretnar Of Slovenia Comes 11th

Austrian skier Ulrike Maier won the women's giant slalom World Championship at Pohorje near Maribor. Her time was 2:28.83. Swiss skier Vreni Schneider, who came third in the first run, finished second with 2:29.08, while the German Katja Seizinger, second in the first run, finished third with 2:29.31. Špela Pretnar, the best-placed Slovenian competitor came 18th in the first run, but improved her result in the second and rose to 11th place with a time of 2:31.52. Urška Horvat came 15th with 2:32.33.
