Review of Events Involving Slovenia in the Week from 2 to 8 December
Ljubljana, 9 December - In anticipation of Saturday's visit of Yugoslav Foreign Minister Goran Svilanovic and the establishment of diplomatic ties between Slovenia and Yugoslavia during his visit, the Slovene government on Friday endorsed an agreement on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The government also appointed Miran Mejak as the special co-ordinator of the succession issue. During the week, Prime Minister Janez Drnovsek also attended the opening of the EU summit in Nice. Drnovsek expressed optimism about the EU reaching an agreement on institutional reform and thus allowing enlargement of the EU to proceed. The week also saw the last handing over of ministerial offices, as the new government team completed its assumption of office.
