Review of the Slovene Sporting Scene - December 1999 to November 2000
Ljubljana, 10 December - The Sydney Olympic Games will remain etched in the history of Slovene sport for a long time to come. The "golden age" had hit Slovenia in 2000, following the "bronze" and "silver" ages of the 1992 Barcelona games and the 1996 Atlanta games. Slovenia's first Olympic gold medal since independence was won by rowers Iztok Cop and Luka Spik, who lived up to their favourites tag and became Olympic champions in the double sculls. Only a few hours later shooter Rajmond Debevec added another gold to the tally. Following 32 years of waiting Slovenia had once again won a gold medal.
