Review of Events Involving Slovenia in the Week from 16 to 22 December

Ljubljana, 23 December - Thursday's government session focused on Slovenia's priority tasks for accession which are to be undertaken in 2001. The week also saw parliament endorse Ciril Ribicic as a judge at the constitutional court, while on the other hand it left Slovenia without a new ombudsman as it failed to endorse the candidacy of Darja Lavtizar-Bebler, meaning that Slovenia's President Milan Kucan will once again have to hold consultations with heads of deputy groups and propose a new candidate. In another major development the negotiating teams tackling succession of the former Yugoslavia met following a two year silence and agreed to renew talks in February 2001 in Ljubljana.
