Candidate Countries Should Resolve Bilateral Issues before Joining the EU, Filori Says

Brussels, 1 February - It is highly desirable that EU candidate countries resolve bilateral issues before joining the EU. The more bilateral issues settled, the more credible enlargement process. The statement that the European Commission intends to insist on the resolution of the debt of a former Slovene bank to Croatian savers before Slovenia enters the EU should be understood in this context, Jean-Christophe Filori, a spokesmen for European Commissioner for Enlargement Guenter Verheugen, told STA on Thursday, explaining his yesterday's statement on the same issue and referring to today's press release issued by Slovenia's Government Office for European Affairs (SVEZ).
