Salaries Are a Major Problem of the Budget for 2001, Finance Minister Says
Ljubljana, 12 February - "Making up 30 percent of budgetary expenditure, the salaries paid from the state budget are the toughest problem of this and next year's budgets. Salaries in the public sector will increase by nine percent on average in real terms in 2001. The government has yielded all too much to the demands made, and will thus be forced to adopt a restrictive policy when rises in salaries and employment are concerned," Finance Minister Tone Rop told the national radio on Monday.
