Reynders: First New EU Members Could Introduce Euro in 2006

Ljubljana, 22 February - The first new members that will join the EU could introduce the euro as early as 2006 if the expectation of the Nice summit comes true and the first members join the EU in 2004 and then two years successfully participate in the Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM), said Belgian Finance Minister Didier Reynders, who met his Slovene counterpart Tone Rop on Thursday.
