Parliament Concludes First Reading of Amendments to Referendum Act

Ljubljana, 22 March - Parliament was only able to conclude the first reading of the bill amending the act on the peoples' initiative and referendum (ZRLI) on Thursday, as the non-parliamentary Stajerska Provincial Party's (DSS) demand for a preliminary referendum on the amendments forbids it to conduct a further reading. The amendments, suggested by the government to be adopted by the fast-track procedure, only anticipate "minor corrections", while the conceptual issue of the act remains unresolved.
