Foreign Policy Committee Endorses Constitutional Changes for Abolishment of Reciprocity
Ljubljana, 22 March - The parliamentary committee for foreign policies unanimously endorsed the announcement of the Slovene government for the change of article 68 of the Slovene Constitution by the end of 2002 which will mean that, upon Slovene membership in the EU, the principle of reciprocity will no longer apply to citizens and legal entitles from EU member states when buying real estate in Slovenia. This position paper was submitted to the parliamentary comittee for foreign affairs for approval by the government in a bid to close, in talks with the EU within a week, the chapter on the free movement of capital, one of the politically most sensitive chapters of the acquis, which also includes immovable property.
