Slovenia to Raise Social Support on 1 September

Ljubljana, 23 March - Changes to the social security act which raise social security benefits from SIT 23,071 (107.5 euros) to SIT 37,943 (176.8 euros), or 70 percent, were adopted by the Slovene Parliament on Friday. The amended law will come into effect on 1 September 2001, while the new minimal benefits are to be fully implemented as of 1 January 2003. Thus the current social assistance will be gradually replaced by a system of a single social benefit up to the amount of a minimal income, necessary for support of individuals or families entitled to social security.
