Weekly Review of Events Involving Slovenia from 24 through 30 March
Ljubljana, 31 March - The highlight of the week was the success of Slovene EU negotiators which managed to close four negotiating chapters with the EU, among them the environment chapter, at the latest round of EU accession talks in Brussels. Slovenia thus became the first EU candidate country to manage to close this sensitive chapter, a move assessed as a big step by the head of the permanent Swedish mission to the EU. On the other side of the Atlantic, Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel discussed Slovenia's bid to become a member of NATO with U.S. officials, including Secretary of State Colin Powell.
