Secretary General of European Trade Union Confederation Visits Slovenia

Ljubljana, 30 April - The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) is in favour of EU enlargement, but believes that workers' social security should be given special emphasis in negotiations with candidate countries, the Confederation's Secretary General Emilio Gabaglio, who is visiting Slovenia upon an invitation of the Slovene Association of Free Trade Unions (ZSSS), told a press conference on Monday. Gabaglio, who also met with Speaker of the Slovene Parliament Borut Pahor, pointed out that EU membership does not entail a decrease of workers' rights, as has been understood by some Slovene employers.
