EU Should Consider Changing Criteria for Aid to Less Developed Regions

Brussels, 22 May - Slovene Economics Minister Tea Petrin said in Brussels on Tuesday that in the context of enlargement, the EU should assess the reasonabless of the present criteria by which regions are determined to be less developed and thus granted aid from structural funds. Especially the per capita GDP criterion needs to be looked into, Petrin said at the forum on the future of the cohesion policy, the goal of which is to abolish developmental differences between the EU's regions and countries of the future enlarged EU.
