Parliament to Resume Foreign Affairs Bill Discussion on Friday

Ljubljana, 24 May - The National Assembly began a discussion of a new foreign affairs bill, which is to resume tomorrow. The bill is to replace the 1991 act and is part of the harmonisation of Slovenia's legislation with the acquis, said Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel, adding that the act aims to strenghten Slovenia's diplomacy, ensure greater flexibility in signing international contracts and in trying to find solutions to open issues. One of the changes anticipated is that candidates for ambassadors will no longer require an approval from the parliamentary foreign affairs committee.
