Candidate Countries Have a Lot of Work to Do in the Field of State Aids, Says Commissioner Monti
Ljubljana, 18 June - European Commissioner for Competition Mario Monti and Slovene Minister of European Affairs Igor Bavcar on Monday in Ljubljana opened the 7th annual conference of the European Commission directorate general and the competition and state aids institutions from 13 EU candidate countries, which were for the first time joined by Turkey. Commissioner Monti pointed out the importance of the conference, which is held before autumn, when the EU is to draft new negotiating positions, which will set down which candidate countries can provisionally close the chapter of competition and state aids. He stressed that a lot has to be done in the field of state aids, while the situation in the anti-monopoly legislation is satisfactory at the moment.
