Irish No to Nice Treaty Is Not a No to EU Enlargement, President McAleese Says
Ljubljana, 20 June - The Irish no-vote to the Nice Treaty should not be understood as a rejection of EU enlargement. Ireland remains an advocate of enlargement, as it has gained a lot by becoming a member. I hope that in 2001, when Ireland presides the EU again, we can also bid Slovenia welcome among us, Irish President Mary McAleese told the press after meeting with her Slovene counterpart Milan Kucan on Wednesday.
